Evil Spirits

Haunted Blade: A floating, blood-dripping weapon that guards against attacks. It bends and twists like a sword should not.

Devil Dog: Your typical "black dog" spirit. Loud and fast. Because of its presence, Zappa can understand the 'language' of dogs.

Mumblers: Ghost sentries that babble mindlessly and fly after enemies. Will temporarily curse a person with bad luck if they are able to contact and bind to them.

Raou: A massively powerful spirit in the shape of a Dullihan. May be a soldier from the old world, or simply the remnant of some occult weapon used during the Crusades. Because of its presence, Zappa can understand some hidden languages.

S子: S-Ko, (an homage to Yamamura Sadako of Ring) is the most individual of Zappa's parasites. The spirit of a slighted woman, her greatest desire is to make the hapless Zappa her plaything for all eternity. Because of her presence, Zappa can understand the Japanese language.


Zappa is an ordinary young man who just happens to suffer from an extraordinary affliction; through fate, (or as it has been darkly hinted, the machinations of his own subconscious) his body has become possessed by an army of malevolent spirits who seem bent on spreading their suffering into the real of the living. As if this wasn't bad enough, Zappa seems to be their weapon of choice, and whenever he becomes stressed or upset, the ghosts in his body take control and wreak havoc at the expense of anyone nearby, including Zappa himself!
While he originally believed his problem to be an illness, (he would lose consciousness and wake up to find himself covered in injuries he had suffered during his spiritual tantrum) a denizen of the Nexus named Beth was able to convince him of the true nature of his condition, and allow him the faintest measure of control over the spirits that plague him. He can anticipate when a ghostly fit is about to occur and do his best to flee, (hopefully) saving other people from harm and forcing the spirits to calm more quickly.

Up until the time that he found himself alone and suffering from a mystery 'disease', Zappa had lived quite a sheltered, charmed life, the only child in a wealthy family. Along with being an pushover and an effeminate coward, Zappa is more than a bit of a slacker; he partied and slept his way through university, and was thrown off the gymnastics team for missing practice. His lack of confidence and a strong self-image has resulted in a string of failed relationships with members of either sex, though he continues to look for "Ms. Right", hoping to please his mother by returning home some day with a respectable bride. Despite his flaws, Zappa is far from a bad person. He values honesty and polite behaviour, and the trouble he has endured has made him more compassionate and considerate of those around him, forcing him out beyond the charmed sphere of urbane life and into a world where money and good looks do nothing to ensure a person's survival.
